Reimagine Your Life

Welcome to OIT of Western Michigan, Your Food Allergist Specialist in Grandville and Grand Rapids Michigan

You don’t have to avoid restaurants, birthday parties, after-school activities, and other events for fear of food allergen exposure or accidental ingestion. Using Oral Immunotherapy (OIT), the doctors of Allergy Associates of Western Michigan offer hope to food allergy patients through our new program, OIT of Western Michigan.

Starting with just a millionth of a peanut (or other food allergen), our team slowly introduces the allergen to the immune system allowing it to become desensitized. By introducing these allergens in a safe and effective way, our patients have found food freedom and are able to enjoy these allergens as part of their everyday diet in as little as five months.

Since beginning to offer OIT treatment in 2019, our doctors have successfully desensitized patients to milk, egg, soy, sesame, peanut, and tree nuts, and we continue adding more food allergens to this list. OIT of Western Michigan uses a treatment protocol largely based on a system that has been in use for over 10 years, assisting more than 15,000 patients in the United States.

We are able to offer our patients an alternative to living with a restricted diet.  Managing food allergies with strict avoidance is no longer the only option. Our team is dedicated to restoring hope and helping you, and your family, overcome the worry and anxiety that food allergies can cause. Find your hope today, schedule an OIT consultation

“It's a little scary at first knowing your child has such a severe reaction to something and knowing that you're going to be intentionally giving it to them. But it was worth it. There's nothing that would not make me go through this process a hundred times over."

About OIT of Western Michigan

Allergy Associates of Western Michigan has been serving Grand Rapids and the surrounding community for 40 years, during which time we have been dedicated to providing patients relief from a variety of allergic and asthma-related conditions. Led by Dr. Thomas Miller, our team has been studying OIT for more than 10 years, resulting in the creation of OIT of Western Michigan and the development of  custom protocols and procedures based on best practices and other OIT experts. We’re proud to offer West Michigan hope for their food allergies.

Our offices are featured on the Food Allergy Support Team website, which is dedicated to educating and supporting food allergic patients, families and caregivers.  This site contains blogs on many food allergy topics, as well as other educational links, and is a valuable resource for anyone desiring to understand more about food allergies, their management and treatment.
